Lake of the Woods
Data for these images is collected from the Aqua satellite mission. Its goal is to collect information about the Earth's water cycle. In addition, variables such as vegetation cover on the land, phytoplankton and dissolved organic matter in the oceans is being measured.
Aqua was launched on May 4, 2002 and has six Earth-observing instruments on board: AIRS, AMSU, CERES, MODIS and AMSR-E. The MODIS sensor provides the information used for these satellite images. The Aqua mission crosses the equator in the afternoon.
